The St Petersburg Collection is an ardent supporter of the Russian-named ‘Society of Friends’. The Society brings together more than 100 individuals and companies who wish to contribute to the development of “Tsarskoye Selo” the fabled Tsars’ Village which lies outside St Petersburg. This year the traditional Christmas Party in January was dedicated to Catherine the Great and her residence in Tsarskoye Selo which she so adored. The Gala Reception took place in the Great Hall and opera-soloist Katarina Gores sang Mozart arias. The director of Tsarskoye Selo thanked Society members including St Petersburg Collection for their donations and told members about preparations for the 300th Anniversary in 2010.
The new Charles Cameron film “These rooms are excellent…” was previewed and guests were invited to see personal items of Catherine II in the first Antechamber.
St Petersburg Collection collectors and supporters have contributed 52 items to the Resoration Fund over the years.
Shoes, dog model, porcelain egg, board game, album ‘Flags of the World’ and christening eiderdown: chair with blue seat, from Oval Room and bearing original Alexander Palace inventory number; framed photograph of Tsar Nicholas 11. All looted from Alexander Palace and now purchased and represented to the Palace by friends of the St Petersburg Collection.
